Mary White
Found today on the Internet while I was looking for something else, this is a link to an editorial written by William Allen White for his Emporia Gazette. Published in 1921 as an obituary for a young girl who was unknown outside her hometown, it is well worth savoring and sharing all these years later.

I enjoyed that bit of writing very much. William Allen White may have been a relative of Mary's, but hi style was enjoyable to read and helped me visualise young Mary as she must have apeared to her family and friends. Since I am from Kansas and have been in Emporia many times, I enjoyed it the more. They don't write like that these days.
