Fallen Angel

Fallen Angel

After the Navy's Blue Angels performed a few months ago in Arizona, I took this picture of Lieutenant Kevin Davis, the pilot of Blue Angel #6, as he signed autographs and greeted the crowds who had come to see the event. Last weekend Davis, who had since been promoted to Lieutenant Commander, was killed when his jet crashed near the end of a similar performance at an airshow in Beaufort, South Carolina.

T. S. Eliot as a Bosox fan?

Opening Day of the baseball season took place just a few days ago, and as always, the Chicago Cubs have once again lured me back to continue following their great winning tradition. In today's Jewish World Review, I found a nice piece by Paul Greenberg, which I recommend to one and all. The column will be particularly appealing if you (a) are a Boston Red Sox fan, and (b) have some familiarity with the poetry of T. S. Eliot.

A National Geographic wannabe

I'm in a Flickr group called "National Geographic Wannabes," and I think this is the first image I have ever posted to it. This morning I went to work about an hour late, having started my day with a visit to the spring butterfly exhibit at Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix. A friend and fellow Flickr member named Daniel Greene invited me to go there with him. Thanks to that brief but fruitful excursion, I went through the rest of the day with a smile on my face and a spring in my step -- or, more accurately, as much of a spring as I could manage with my now-arthritic feet. I took perhaps 80 pictures during the one-hour visit, including about 10 or so that I deleted on the spot. But this evening I have put several of them on Flickr, with more to follow.

This house is in PHOENIX!

I went on a photo stroll yesterday morning, during which I found this charming home right in the middle of our Sonoran Desert megalopolis. I posted the image this morning, without having edited it in any way; in other words, this is exactly what the camera saw. I figured, why tamper with perfection?
